About Us

A programme by Caring for Environment for Development (CED), in partnership with Mirari Institute
Empowering Youth • Strengthening Communities • Building Sustainable, Inclusive Futures

Overview

The CED Digital Futures Initiative (DFI) is a flagship programme under Caring for Environment for Development (CED), established to empower young people, teachers, communities, and small enterprises with digital skills, innovation capacity, and ethical values to thrive in the modern, connected world.

At CED, we believe that true development is holistic — it integrates technology, environment, community empowerment, and values-based inclusion. The DFI programme bridges the digital divide while ensuring that access to technology supports sustainable growth and community well-being.

Why It Matters

Across Kenya, many communities — especially in rural areas — lack access to affordable technology, digital literacy, and future career pathways. This gap limits learning, innovation, and employment opportunities for young people.

DFI responds to this challenge by extending digital inclusion through local schools, community hubs, and faith-based institutions. We recognise that technology alone is not enough — people need skills, awareness, and values to use it responsibly and effectively.

Our Focus Areas

🌍 1. Community Digital Inclusion

We partner with schools, counties, and community organisations to set up digital access centres, offer training, and equip teachers and youth with 21st-century skills.

We bring technology closer to the people — right where they learn, worship, and work.

💡 2. Digital Skills & Innovation Training

In partnership with Mirari Institute, we deliver training that connects digital literacy to practical livelihoods — from basic ICT to coding, renewable energy technologies, and green innovation.

Our aim is to create digitally skilled youth who also drive sustainable development.

🌿 3. Values and Social Responsibility in Technology

We integrate ethics, community values, and interfaith inclusivity in our approach to technology education. This ensures that digital transformation remains people-centred, respectful of diversity, and grounded in shared moral principles.

🚀 4. Employment, Entrepreneurship & Future Careers

Through mentorship and partnerships with local industries, county governments, and development agencies, we help young people transition from training to employment or enterprise creation.

We prepare Kenya’s youth not just for jobs — but for purpose-driven digital futures.

Our Approach

The CED approach is holistic and inclusive, ensuring that development is both equitable and sustainable:

  • Community-rooted:We work through local leaders, schools, and faith networks.
  • Environmentally conscious:We align technology with green innovation and sustainability.
  • People-focused:We promote access for all — regardless of gender, background, or belief.
  • Ethically guided:We integrate values, respect, and responsibility in every training.
