About Us

Caring for Environment for Development (C.E.D) is a registered N.G.O, that has operated in Kitui, Embu, Nairobi and Makueni since 2006.

Caring for environment for development pillar on sustainability focuses among other areas on supporting of Avocado, Macadamia and Coffee farmers across the country in areas of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), market linkages and environmental conservation by guided farming in consideration of reduction of carbon emission. With use of technology and training CED supports farmers to understand the various climate challenges and also help them in bettering their yields and increasing their chances for better market rates for their crops.

CED is involved in food security through promotion of agriculture, soil and water conservation as well as providing water to marginalized communities. In order to fight and eradicate poverty, CED has had the support of various local and international organizations, among them:

  • UNEP
  • FAO
  • CAFOD (UK)
  • Excellent Development (ED) (UK charity)

With UNEP, CED worked with the youth along Nairobi River doing garbage collection and cleaning up sections of the river. The garbage so collected was put in different containers; Plastics, metal, glass and bio-degradable which were then disposed off by Nairobi City Council.

FAO supported CED in Kitui to promote growing of drought tolerant crops, post-harvest management as well as marketing. CAFOD, like FAO supported CED in food security with similar interventions.

ED partnered with CED in Kitui to support the communities to harvest water through gutters as well as sand dams.

One common denominator among all our partners is their promotion of sustainability through training.

CED works with different registered women and youth groups with the aim of empowering them through various interventions among them:

  • Microfinance and entrepreneurship
  • Solid waste management
  • Food production, Post harvest management and value addition
  • Water harvesting, particularly sand dams
  • Capacity building through training
  • Appropriate technology
  • Environmental conservation and mitigation against climate changes.

CED is managed by a board of directors comprising of people of high integrity and experience. The staff of CED are well trained and educated people who are highly skilled in what they do. The organization is headed by a program director

CED has the necessary capacity in terms of staff, equipment and infrastructure to enable it carry out its mandate.  CED has the capacity to work in any part of the country. Particularly in marginalized areas both urban as well as rural areas.
