This was achieved through:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Organized interactive and learning forums with the community.<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning up the identified section of the river,<\/li>\n<li>Planting trees and landscaping around the buffer zone,<\/li>\n<li>Fencing the section of the dump site<\/li>\n<li>Building small kiosks, resting places for the people.<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring and evaluation of the project activities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The overall goal of the project is to clean up the identified section of the river from the<br \/>\ndumpsite to Mau Mau Bridge and build kiosks. In order to create a clean and safe<br \/>\nenvironment, improve their livelihood thereby reducing poverty and contributing to<br \/>\nmillennium development goals to halve poverty by 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The main objectives were:<\/p>\n<p>1. To clean the identified section of Nairobi River along Kangemi.<br \/>\n2. Targeted people especially the Youths, people with disabilities, women groups increase their income through kiosks.<br \/>\n3. To enlighten the community on water resource management.<br \/>\n4. To improve livelihoods and enhance proper sanitation.<\/p>\n<p>The project cleaned the river section and the buffer zone to improve the aesthetic beauty; it also created awareness and educate the communities on safe waste disposal<br \/>\nmethods and learn to take care of the river their source of water.<\/p>\n<p>The project activities included community education, sensitization, trainings, workshops, planting trees, fencing around the dumpsite, dredging the surface run off canals, building of kiosks and relaxation benches etc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":3924,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17,20],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-172","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ecology","category-home"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.10 -
